At the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock, surpassing everything else, including his first Best Actor win for King Richard |. After the incident, Will Smith’s mother, Carolyn Smith reacted to her son’s first award and of course the slap. In an interview with 6abc, he said, “He’s a very balanced person, people. That was the first time I ever saw him go. The first time in his life … I never saw him do that.” He added, “I know how he works, how hard he works … I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting. When I heard that name, I was just, ‘Yeah!'”

It all started when Chris Rock appeared on stage to present the award for Best Documentary Feature, where he made a joke about Will Smith’s wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith being in “GI Jane” because of her shaved head, which sparked The Pursuit of Happiness the actor, who hit Chris Rock and returned to his seat and shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f ***** g mouth.” Later, while receiving the Best Actor trophy, Will Smith apologized to the Academy and its nominees.

Will Smith, however, apologized to Chris Rock in a later Instagram post, in which he said he was “embarrassed” about what he did and a quote from his post read, “I want to apologize publicly to you, Chris. I’m out of line and I’m wrong. I’m ashamed and my actions don’t show the man I want. There’s no place for violence in the world of love and kindness. “

On Tuesday, Jada Pinkett Smith also shared a vague post on her Instagram profile, where she wrote: “This is the season for healing and I’m here for it.”

Meanwhile, the Academy of Film Arts and Sciences has begun a “formal review” of the situation. “We have officially begun a formal review of the incident and will explore further actions and consequences in accordance with our California By-Laws, Standards of Conduct and laws,” a statement from the Academy said, the AFP news agency reported.
