What is Purim? About the Jewish festival that coincides with Holi

Holi 2022: Purim celebrations coincide with Holi.

Israeli Ambassador Naor Gilon extended his wishes to the people of India in Holi in 2022. He also mentioned Purim, a Jewish festival of color.

“I am happy to celebrate my first #Holi in India, which coincides with the #Judite #Purim festival. Both festivals are colorful and celebrate the victory of the good. It is gratifying to see how similar the cultures of our two nations are, ”tweeted Israeli Ambassador Glion in India, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.

What is Purim?

It is a holiday that the Jews remember Esther, who was queen of Persia more than 2,000 years ago. The festival takes place on the 14th day of the Hebrew branch of the month.

This year, the festival is held on March 17th.

According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Esther was a Jewish queen, but her husband, King Ahasuerus, was unaware of this. His prime minister hated the Jews.

King Haman was convinced that the Jews living under the Persians were rebellious and should be executed.

His main plot was against Esther’s uncle Mordecai, who pledged to kill all the Jews. He did a raffle, a way to randomly choose something from a variety of options. The Persian word was Purim.

But the brave queen Esther told the king about her religion and sided with her people. The king pardoned Esther and punished Haman. He also ordered Mordecai to replace Haman.

All this happened on the 13th day of the Horn, and the Queen appointed him a feast the next day, and appointed him at Purim, according to the Britannica.

This is how Purim is celebrated

The story of Queen Esther is read in every synagogue. The children there also act out the story.

Haman did not like the Jews and every time his name appears in the story, the children stepped on their feet and abated. The Jews also give gifts to their relatives on this day.

Food during the Purim period

The Jews eat cakes called Hamantasch. The poppy is full of seeds, in memory of the brave Queen who ate only the seeds.

The festival is important to the Jews and is a celebration of good over evil.
