Venom 3, Ghostbusters 5 Announced by Sony Pictures

Venom 3 and Ghostbusters 5 are in the works. At the CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Monday, Sony Pictures teased a new one poison and Ghostbusters the film in the reel sizzles the cover. While the former is all but expected given the commercial success of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and the fact that Venom star Tom Hardy has been planning Venom 3 since August last year, the latter is a bit of a surprise since the soft reboot sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife didn’t exactly hit the blockbuster . Sony Pictures has not set a release date for the two films and no director or cast members have been announced either.

While I expect Hardy to return in the lead role for Venom 3, it’s not as easy to say what will happen on Ghostbusters 5. The post -credit scene in Ghostbusters: Afterlife envisions a return to original territory for the franchise, as Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) brings Ecto-1 returned from Summerville to New York City. The post-credit scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage was only used to provide Hardy’s cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, so it’s unclear where Venom 3 will go from here.

Of the two, poison has been a larger revenue contributor for Sony Pictures, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage raking in $ 502.1 million (about Rs. 3,839 crores) despite the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. The first film, unaffected by the coronavirus, grossed $ 856.1 million (about Rs. 6,546 crores). Meanwhile, Ghostbusters: Afterlife delivered $ 204.6 million (approximately Rs. 1,564 crores) at box offices worldwide. That’s less than the 2016 women’s -led reboot Ghostbusters -COVID-19 is a factor for Ghostbusters: Afterlife as well-but the new one is also made for about half of the budget.

Critical reception was even better, though in my review, I noted that Ghostbusters: Afterlife felt like a “less fun Alien, through Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with director Jason Reitman landing a “safe and calculated soft reboot.” The poison the film, on the other hand, continues to be the evidence of reviews. While both installments were eliminated by critics, they made money at the box office-and in turn, convinced Sony Pictures to produce more of them.
