The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State Department relaxed the government’s COVID-19 travel assessment for India and several other countries on Monday.

The CDC said it has changed the COVID-19 travel recommendation for India to “Level 1: Low” from “Level 3: High,” urging unvaccinated Americans to avoid travel to the location.

The CDC also downgraded Chad, Guinea and Namibia to “Level 1.” The State Department on Monday downgraded its travel advice for India to “Level 2: Raising Vigilance,” reflecting the lower risk of COVID-19, but also citing the risk of “crime and terrorism.”
