Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky Demands Weapons From The West, Asks Are They Afraid Of Russia

Zelensky has repeatedly stressed that Russia will seek to expand further into Europe if Ukraine falls.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who looked irritated, on Saturday demanded Western countries provide a small portion of military hardware in their stockpiles and asked if they were afraid of Moscow.

Several countries have promised to send anti-armored and anti-aircraft missiles as well as small arms but Zelenskiy said Kyiv needs tanks, aircraft and anti-ship systems.

“That’s what our partners belong to, that’s what just gathers dust there. This is all not just for the freedom of Ukraine, but for the freedom of Europe,” he said in a video speech late at night.

Ukraine needs only 1% of NATO aircraft and 1% of its tanks and will not ask for more, he said.

“We’ve been waiting 31 days. Who is responsible for the Euro-Atlantic community? Is it really still Moscow, because of intimidation?” he said.

Zelenskiy has repeatedly stressed that Russia will seek to expand further into Europe if Ukraine falls. NATO even does not support its request for a no -fly zone over Ukraine on the grounds that this could trigger a wider war.

Earlier in the day Zelenskiy spoke with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda and expressed frustration Russian -made fighter jets in Eastern Europe have yet to be transferred to Ukraine, Zelenskiy’s office said in a statement.

“The price of a delay with the plane is thousands of lives of Ukrainians,” the office quoted him as saying. Zelenskiy said Poland and the United States have expressed their readiness to make a decision on the aircraft.

Earlier this month, Washington rejected a surprise offer by Poland to transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to a U.S. base in Germany to be used to augment the Ukrainian air force.
