Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov on Wednesday said Kyiv was facing “extremely difficult weeks” ahead, warning of massive “destruction” in the growing Russian offensive in the east of the country.
“A very difficult few weeks lie ahead,” Reznikov said in a statement on Facebook.
“Russia has already assembled troops for a massive offensive in eastern Ukraine,” he added, adding that Moscow “will try to inflict as much pain as possible” and warned of “devastation and painful injuries”.
“In the next few days, we need all the extraordinary resilience and unity,” Reznikov told the people of Ukraine.
He added that upcoming events will “determine the future of our state.”
Russia has continued its aggression on Ukraine, refocusing on the east and south of the country as the war enters its third month.
Kyiv acknowledged that Russian troops had made a profit in the east, with Moscow troops capturing a string of villages in the Donbas region.
