The Senior Section of Chinese History Stands on the Ukrainian War

China says they have always stood up to keep the peace and oppose war.

Shanghai:

China stands on the right side of history in relation to the Ukraine crisis over time, and its position is in line with the wishes of most countries, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

“China will not accept any external coercion or pressure, and opposes any baseless and suspicious allegations against China,” Wang told reporters on Saturday afternoon, according to a statement issued by his ministry on Sunday.

Wang’s comments came after US President Joe Biden warned his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Friday of “consequences” if Beijing gave material support to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

During the video call, Xi told Biden that the war in Ukraine must end as soon as possible and called on NATO countries to hold a dialogue with Moscow. He however did not blame Russia, according to Beijing’s statement on the call.

Wang said the most important message Xi sent was that China has always been a power to maintain world peace.

“We have always stood up to maintain peace and oppose war,” Wang said, reiterating that China will make independent judgments.

“China’s position is objective and fair, and in line with the wishes of most countries. Time will prove that China’s claim is on the right side of history.”

Also on Saturday, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Yucheng said that the sanctions imposed by Western countries on Russia on Ukraine were increasingly “excessive”.

The United States and its European and Asian allies have imposed comprehensive sanctions on Russia because of the Feb. 24 invasion of its neighbor, which they called a war of aggression by President Vladimir Putin. He said he launched a “special operation” to destroy the army and “deny” Ukraine.

While saying it recognizes Ukraine’s sovereignty, Beijing has repeatedly said that Russia has legitimate security concerns that need to be addressed and called for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
