Nitin Gadkari, Minister of the Road Transport and Highways Union, answering a question on “Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations” in parliament today during Question Time said the cost of electric vehicles would be equivalent to petrol within two years.
“I assure the House that within 2 years, the cost of 2-wheel, 3-wheel electric and 4-wheel electric vehicles will be equivalent to Petrol vehicles and the country will change,” Mr Gadkari said.
“… Because of petrol and diesel, we are facing a critical problem. We have already seen …,” he said, referring to the steepest 10-day increase in fuel prices in at least 20 years.
“This is the only alternative, which is green hydrogen, electricity, ethanol, methanol, bio-diesel, bio-LNG and bio-CNG … We will work in that direction,” he added.
Petrol and diesel prices were raised again on Thursday for the ninth time in the past 10 days, since the end of the four -and -a -half -month rate review on March 22. Rates have been raised nationwide and vary by state to state depending on local tax incidents.
