A clever way of smuggling gold on a Dubai-Delhi flight failed when officials inspected the plane on its way to Delhi airport.
Officials reported the smuggling when the plane at the airport landed and the suspect was arrested.
When they searched the plane, they recovered a “U” -shaped gold structure, wrapped in a silver-colored ribbon and fastened to a pole under a passenger seat.
“1000 grams of gold is valued at Rs 48.90,270. He admitted that the gold recovered under the seat was bought by the passenger and seized under section 110 of the 1962 Customs Act,” officials said.
The passengers said they had previously admitted to smuggling another 2,000 grams of gold.
More research is being done on the subject.
