The Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday refused to suspend FIFA’s ban on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in the 2022 World Cup finals. CAS, the sports court, has yet to decide on the legal basis for the ban, but no decision is expected for at least a few weeks.
“The contested decision remains in force and all Russian teams and clubs are suspended from participating in FIFA competitions. The CAS arbitration procedure continues,” the court said in a statement.
The Russian Football Union has filed an appeal against the suspension, with a view to obtaining permission to allow Russia to face Poland in the World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March 24.

FIFA, however, has already beaten Poland in the playoff final.
