New Delhi:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences spoke with actor Will Smith at Zoom before an emergency board meeting regarding his attack on comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars. Variety reports that Will Smith, who won Best Actor shortly after the altercation, apologized to the Academy on the Zoom call. The academy is meeting to decide on disciplinary action against King Richard star who slapped and cursed Oscar Chris Rock for a joke he made at the expense of Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett.

Sources told Variety that the Zoom call lasted for 30 minutes; other sources describe it as “concise.” Variety also reported that Will Smith apologized once again to Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson – he did so in his emotional Oscar speech and also in an Instagram post where he apologized to Chris Rock by name.

It all started when Chris Rock appeared on stage to present the award for Best Documentary Feature, where he made a joke about Will Smith’s wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith being in “GI Jane” because of her shaved head, which sparked The Pursuit of Happiness the actor, who hit Chris Rock and returned to his seat and shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f ***** g mouth.” Later, while receiving the Best Actor trophy, Will Smith apologized to the Academy and fellow candidates.

Will Smith, however, apologized to Chris Rock in a later Instagram post, in which he said he was “embarrassed” about what he did and a quote from his post read, “I want to apologize publicly to you, Chris. I’m out of line and I’m wrong. I’m ashamed and my actions don’t show the man I want. There’s no place for violence in the world of love and kindness. “

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences began an “official review” of the situation earlier this week and apologized to Chris Rock for the incident. “Mr. Rock, we apologize to you for what you experienced on our stage and thank you for your perseverance at the time,” the Academy said in a statement, the AFP news agency reported. It also says that Will Smith was asked to leave Oscar after the slap and refused – doubts have been cast over this claim.

Meanwhile, Chris Rock, while performing at his comedy show at the Wilbur Theater, said, “I don’t have a lot of s *** about what’s going on, so if you come to hear it, I have the whole show I wrote before the weekend. “I’m still processing what’s going on. So, at some point I’m going to talk about it. And it’s going to be serious and funny,” Variety reported.
