Tata Sons head N Chandrasekaran was named president of Air India

N Chandrasekaran is also the president of Tata Sons.

Tata Group has announced that Natrajan Chandrasekarana will be chairman of Air India as the committee confirmed his appointment on Monday.

The Tata group had earlier announced Turkish CEO Ilker Ayci of Air India, but the appointment was met with strong opposition in India.

As a result, Turkish Ilker Ayci resigned as CEO of Tata Air India.

Mr. Chandrasekaran is the President of Tata Sons, a holding company and promoter of more than 100 Tata operating companies. He joined the Tata Sons Board in October 2016 and was named president in January 2017.

He also serves on the boards of several business groups, including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where he served as CEO from 2009-17.

Following his 30-year business career at TCS, he joined the university. He rose through the ranks of TCS to become the CEO and Managing Director of the global IT solutions and consulting firm.

Mr. Chandrasekaran was the first non-partisan professional executive to lead the Tata Group.
