Congress President Sonia Gandhi has today ousted party leaders in five states that suffered major failures last week. Navjot Singh Sidhu, the head of the Punjab Congress, is among them.
Congress lost Punjab to Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and did not fight in the four states he hoped to return to, or a close fight with the BJP.
Sonia Gandhi’s move is a follow-up to a meeting of Congress leaders on Sunday to discuss the latest polls.
The Congressional Labor Committee said Sonia Gandhi would remain the leader and gave her permission to take “effective and immediate steps” to resolve organizational issues.
