Russia will be replaced in the international sports competition by the invasion of Ukraine, Serbia will be replaced in the Davis Cup final and Australia in the Billie Jean Cup, the International Tennis Federation announced on Monday. Serbia were selected to take part in the Davis Cup semi-finals in September because it was a semi-final that they lost in 2021 to 2021.
The Serbs, led by Novak Djokovic, have already given him a wild card for this year’s finals, without going through the playoffs.
This wildcard will now be relocated to another country, selected from the 12 losing nations in the 2022 playoffs.
Russia beat Croatia in December to win the Davis Cup title.
The group stage of the finals will take place in four cities in September, before the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final in November in a fifth city. These places have not yet been reported.
Australia won the Billie Jean King Cup, which ranked them among the losers in the 2021 semi-finals.
The Australian team will no longer have to take part in the play-offs from 15 to 16 April, which means that the Slovakian opponent will be greeted and will go straight to the 2022 final.
Russia is also the current champion in this competition. It was the fourth nation to win two team competitions in a year.
