The blast heard today in central Bengaluru, on the route of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, caused great panic until a short circuit was found to be the cause.
The sound was heard at about 4.30pm near Mount Carmel college, which is on the Amit Shah route. The route taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the top Union Minister is usually cleared by security personnel earlier.
Mr Shah returned from an event in Chickballapur.
When police investigated the noise, they realized that an underground electrical cable had a short circuit in the sewage.
There was no “sabotage”, as police were initially frightened upon receiving the warning.
The video showed thick gray smoke rising from the sewer hole and sounding like an explosion. Policemen and sniffer dogs are checking the area, along with security personnel guarding Mr Shah’s protection.
The area was completely cleared as security forces inspected the place.
