Russian troops on Tuesday attacked a military airport in a western Ukrainian city destroying fuel supplies, its mayor said.

“We have been rained on missiles since the first day of the war, but today the attack was very serious and caused significant damage,” Starokostyantyniv Mayor Mykola Melnychuk said on Facebook, noting no casualties.

He added the bombing had destroyed fuel and lubricant stocks in the city of about 35,000 between the capitals of Kyiv and Lviv.

The attack came as Russia vowed on Tuesday to “radically” reduce its military activity around Kyiv and the northern city of Chernigiv after “meaningful” progress in peace talks held in Istanbul.

Also on Tuesday, at least nine people were killed and 28 others wounded in a Russian attack in the southern city of Mykolaiv.

The Russian military also carried out more than 40 missile and rocket attacks in a 24 -hour period in residential areas of Kyiv region, officials said.
