The Kremlin on Monday expressed concern after US President Joe Biden called Russian leader Vladimir Putin a “butcher” over his military operations in Ukraine.

“This is a statement that is certainly worrying,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, adding that Moscow will “continue to closely monitor” the US president’s statement.

“We will continue to closely monitor the US president’s statement,” Peskov added.

During a visit to Poland on Saturday, Biden called Putin “a butcher” who “cannot stay in power”.

The White House later rushed to deny he was seeking “regime change” in Moscow, while the Kremlin said Biden’s words could affect bilateral relations.
