Russia Pledges To Ease Attacks On Ukraine; Skeptical West

Russo-Ukrainian War: Mariupol has been besieged and shelled by Russian troops since February.

New Delhi:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the situation in the Donbas region remains extremely difficult by reiterating that Russia is building forces near the besieged city of Mariupol.

“There will be battles ahead. We still have to go through a very difficult road to get everything we want,” he said.

The U.S. also said that Russia is refocusing its military efforts in the Donbas region which could trigger “a longer and more protracted conflict”.

US President Joe Biden said that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin may be “isolated” and could put some of his advisers under “house arrest”.

NATO warned that it did not see the withdrawal of Russian troops in Ukraine and expected “additional offensive action”.

The Ukrainian government has sent 45 buses to evacuate civilians from the besieged city of Mariupol, where Russia has declared a local ceasefire following global protests over the suffering of civilians trapped by relentless gunfire for a month.

Russia-Ukraine War: Biden Says Putin May Put Some Advisers “Under House Arrest”

U.S. President Joe Biden said Thursday that Russian leader Vladimir Putin may be “isolated” and could put some of his advisers under “house arrest.”

In his first public statement on the West’s assessment of the Kremlin’s tensions over the war in Ukraine, Biden also said he was “skeptical” about Moscow’s claims of reducing attacks in some parts of the country.
