Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised opponent Lakshya Sen for giving a spirited fight after she lost in the All -England Championship final, and expressed confidence that she would continue to improve on new successes. Sen’s dream run at the All England Championships ended in a heartbreaking defeat in a row against world number one and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen in the men’s singles final on Sunday, continuing India’s painful 21-year wait for the coveted trophy.

“Proud of you @lakshya_sen! You have shown incredible perseverance and perseverance. You gave a spirited fight. Best prayers for your future endeavors,” cuit Modi.

“I am confident you will continue to raise new levels of success,” the prime minister said.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also praised Sen.


“You are unbeatable, @lakshya_sen. You have won billions of hearts. Congratulations on a great performance. You have made India proud! My best prayers for your future endeavors,” Gandhi wrote on Twitter.

After four days of sensational badminton, the 20-year-old Sen faltered at the peak of history when he made too many mistakes to succumb 10-21 15-21 to former champion Axelsen in the summit clash.
