Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam today where he will lay the foundation stone for several projects.
The Prime Minister will address the ‘Peace, Unity and Development Assembly’ in Diphu in Karbi Anglong District around 11am.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), during the program, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone to various projects in the education sector.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Veterinary College (Diphu), the Degree College (West Karbi Anglong) and the Agricultural College (Kolonga, West Karbi Anglong). These projects, valued at more than Rs 500 crore, will bring new opportunities for skills and employment in the region.
During the program, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for over 2,950 Amrit Sarovar projects. The state government will develop this Amrit Sarovars at a cumulative cost of around Rs 1,150 crore.
“The Prime Minister’s unwavering commitment to peace and development of the region is exemplified by the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoS) by the Government of India and the Government of Assam with six Karbi militant groups. The MoS has ushered in a new era of peace in the region. at the ‘Peace, Unity and Development Assembly’ will provide a major boost to peace initiatives across the region, ”the PMO said in a statement.
Around 01:45 pm, the Prime Minister will arrive at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh and dedicate Dibrugarh Cancer Hospital to the country.
Then, around 3pm, he will attend a public ceremony at Khanikar land in Dibrugarh, where he will dedicate six more cancer hospitals to the country and lay the foundation stone for seven new cancer hospitals,
In Dibrugarh, the Assam Cancer Care Foundation, a joint venture of the Assam Government and Tata Trusts, is implementing a project to build the largest affordable cancer care network in South Asia with 17 Cancer care hospitals spread across the state.
“Under Phase 1 of the project, out of 10 hospitals, the construction of seven hospitals has been completed while three hospitals are in various stages of construction. Phase 2 of the project will see the construction of seven new cancer hospitals,” he said.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate seven cancer hospitals completed under phase 1 of the project. These cancer hospitals were built in Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darrang, Tezpur, Lakhimpur and Jorhat.
He will also lay the foundation stone of seven new cancer hospitals in Dhubri, Nalbari, Goalpara, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Tinsukia and Golaghat to be built under phase 2 of the project.
