The Twenty20 match between three internationals a day and Pakistan and the visiting Australian are moving from Rawalpindi to Lahore later this month due to internal politics, the Interior Minister said on Friday. The Australians are making their first tour of the country in almost a quarter of a century due to security concerns that they had previously refused to visit.

There have been no serious threats to the group since its arrival last month, but several political rallies for and against the government have been planned for days and weeks in the surrounding capital.

Islamabad Rawalpindi is a short drive from the larger garrison city.

“Parties are shifting to Lahore for political activities in the capital,” Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said at a news conference.
