On Camera, MLA Trinamool Bengal Votes On Your Risky Message To BJP Supporters

The video features MLA Pandabeswar Trinamool, Naren Chakraborty

The BJP has targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal over a video in which a party lawmaker was seen asking Trinamool workers to threaten BJP supporters not to vote in the upcoming by-elections in the Asansol Lok Sabha seat.

“Tell them,‘ If you vote, where you will be after voting is at your own risk ’,” the video showed MLA Pandabeswar Trinamool Naren Chakraborty telling party workers in what looked like a meeting on voting preparations.

The video was shared by senior BJP leaders, including its IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Opposition Leader in the Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, among others.

The Pandabeswar Assembly segment is part of the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency where a by -election will be held on April 12.

In the video, Mr Chakraborty is heard saying in Bengali, “Those who are hardcore supporters of the BJP, who cannot be influenced, they need to be threatened. Tell them, ‘If you go to vote, we will assume you will vote for the BJP. Then, after the vote. , where you will be is at your risk. And if you don’t go to the polls, we will assume that you support us, you stay well, continue your work or business, we are with you ‘. “

Sharing the video, Mr Malviya tweeted, “Such criminals should be in jail but in Bengal Mamata Banerjee protects them. ECI must take note.”

Mr Adhikari said in his tweet that Mr Chakraborty was previously a member of Burdwan Zilla Parishad and president of the Pandabeswar Trinamool block unit. He said the MLA was arrested at Kolkata airport in 2016 for trying to board a flight with an unlicensed pistol and cartridge ammunition.

The Trinamool Congress has yet to comment on the matter.

The Asansol seat is vacant after former Union minister and MP Babul Supriyo quit the BJP and joined Trinamool.

While the BJP has fielded fashion designer-MLA Agnimitra Paul, Trinamool has given tickets to the actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who was previously with the BJP and then Congress before joining Mamata Banerjee’s party. Mr Supriyo is Trinamool’s candidate for the Ballygunge by -election.

The BJP’s attack on Trinamool is the latest in its attack on the ruling party over the legal and order situation in the state.

The new attack comes against the background of a gruesome murder in Birbhum district where eight family members, including five women and two children, were attacked and then burned to death. The incident was allegedly in retaliation after a local Trinamool Congress leader, Bhadu Sheikh, was killed in a raw bomb attack. Following intervention by the Calcutta High Court, the CBI is investigating the murder.

BJP and Trinamool lawmakers made criticism in yesterday’s Assembly over demands for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to speak on the state’s legal and orderly situation.

A Trinamool MLA was injured in the fight. Mr Adhikari and four other BJP lawmakers have been suspended from the Assembly throughout the year following the unrest.
