New Zealand will reopen its borders to international visitors from next month

The Prime Minister of New Zealand said the move would boost economic recovery for the rest of the year.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Wednesday that New Zealand would open its borders much earlier than expected, and that Australians would be able to travel from 12 April.

Visitors from visa-exempt countries including the US and the UK will be eligible to enter from 1 May.

Arden says the move will boost economic recovery by the end of the year.
