Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk is giving it “serious thought” to building a new social media platform, the millionaire said in a tweet on Saturday.
Mr. Musk answered Twitter users ’questions on whether he would consider building a social media platform consisting of an open source algorithm and one that would prioritize freedom of speech, and where propaganda is minimal.

Elon Musk, a prolific Twitter user himself, has been criticizing the social media platform and its policies lately. He said the company undermined democracy by failing to adhere to the principles of freedom of expression.
His tweet was made a day after he released a Twitter opinion poll asking users if they believe Twitter adheres to the principle of freedom of speech, which more than 70 percent voted “no”.
“The consequences of this vote are important. Please vote carefully,” he said on Friday.

If Mr. Musk decides to go ahead with creating new platforms, he will join a growing portfolio of technology companies that position themselves as champions of freedom of speech and that hope to attract users who feel their views are oppressed on platforms like Twitter, Facebook Meta Platform and YouTube.
