Mortara Holds Vergne To Win Berlin E-Prix – By ASC

Edoardo Mortara of ROKiT Venturi Racing won Round 7 of the Berlin E-Prix, the first of 2 races in the German capital. The Swiss driver converted his leading position to victory, and controlled the entire duration of the race from the lead, except when he fell a few places while using his 2 attack modes. DSTecheetah driver Jean-Eric Vergne returned home to finish the race in P2, to close the points gap with Vandoorne, who made a magical recovery to finish the race in P3 after falling to 12th in the opening lap.

Jean-Eric Vergne gave everything, but was only able to bring home P2.
JEV gave everything towards the closing stage of the race to take the lead, and on lap 37, he made an ambitious move after Mortara’s error, and was unable to hold on, causing him to be under pressure from Vandoorne and Andre Lotterer’s Porsche. Vergne managed to hold on to second place, despite Vandoorne’s pressure putting him below, and bridging the championship gap by 3 points. The Frenchman has yet to win a race this season despite being in 2nd place in the championship – just 3 points behind Vandoorne – and he said that it was a matter of “when, not if” he won this year’s race.

Stoffel Vandoorne drove a great recovery drive to finish on the podium.
Vandoorne drove an epic recovery drive after going down to P12 on the opening lap. Following his win at the Monaco E-Prix, the Belgian driver, made it place after place, until he took the lead, but Mortara passed him to take the lead using his attack mode. Shortly after Mortara regained the lead, Vergne moved over to Vandoorne to take P2, and he did enough to fend it off despite struggling in the closing stages.
A beautiful step from @JeanEricVergne to take P2 ????

The race was dramatic from the start. Right at the start of the race Antonio Felix da Costa tried to move over Alex Sims of Mahindra Racing from P3, but the top trio came out as in turn 1. After that, da Costa lowered the order to 8th place, as Sims finished behind him in P9 . Sims teammate Oliver Rowland was unable to finish the race in points, as he could only recover to P11 after starting the race at P17.
It’s almost at the beginning of between @AlexanderSims and @afelixdacosta ⚔️@edomortara extending his clues forward …

Porsche drivers battled title challenger Mitch Evans for the P4, and they ended with Lotterer getting the P4 ahead of Evans and Wehrlein. Evans rose from P9, and brought home good points to maintain his championship hopes, as title rival Robin Frijns could only finish 12th after qualifying for 20th place, dropping a place in the championship standings. Aside from the change in the order, the top 10 in the World Championships remain in the same order, with the gap at the top now down to just 3 points.
