More than 100 stray dogs were allegedly killed in the Siddipet district of Telangana, according to an animal rights activist although police on Tuesday said a case had been registered in connection with the matter.
A mass killing of dogs took place in Thigul village in Jagadevpur mandal Siddipet district, Goutham activists said in a complaint made to police and accused Sarpanch Village and Secretary Gram Panchayat of hiring professional dog catchers and killing wild dogs by injecting them with poison on March 27.
A video on social media platforms showed the carcass of a dog found lying in a hole.
Based on the complaint, one case has been registered and further investigations are underway, a police official said.
The activist further said he had also lodged a complaint with the Siddipet Collector and the Siddipet Police Commissioner regarding the matter and also applied for the suspension of Sarpanch Kampung and the Secretary.
