Suzuki and Toyota will begin production of the new hybrid SUV model, as the Japanese carmaker aims to market the new model in India as the Suzuki and Toyota models, respectively.

Toyota and Suzuki have announced new SUVs developed by Suzuki for India, followed by the global market to be released at Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s facility in Bengaluru. The two automakers are promoting the joint supply of vehicles around the world, which is one of the collaborations in the business partnership, and the two companies will now begin production of new hybrid SUV models, as Japan aims to market the new models in India as Suzuki and Toyota models, respectively. Furthermore, the two companies plan to export the new model to markets outside India including Africa.

Akio Toyoda, President, Toyota said, “We are pleased to announce a new SUV with Suzuki, a company with a long history of local involvement in Indian business. Today, the automotive industry faces various challenges such as electrification and carbon neutrality. By leveraging the strengths of Toyota and Suzuki respectively to provide Indian customers with a wide range of options, we hope to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and realize a society where ‘no one is left behind and’ everyone can move freely. “

The touted new hybrid model to be called, the Toyota HyRyder will most likely be unveiled to the world on July 1, 2022, and will be the first model jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota as part of its global partnership. The upcoming offering will first appear as a Toyota badge model, while an iteration of the Maruti Suzuki badge will follow soon. The newly developed motor is expected to be a 1.5 -liter petrol engine backed by an electric motor that will help the carmaker compensate for the absence of a diesel engine in its lineup. The base finish is likely to get a softer hybrid petrol engine, possibly a 1.5-liter K-Series motor from the new Ertiga and XL6.

The new model power machinery to be sold in India will be equipped with a lightweight hybrid developed by Suzuki and a powerful hybrid developed by Toyota. By combining the strengths of both Toyota and Suzuki through the collaboration, the two companies will be able to provide various types of vehicle electrification technologies to customers and contribute to the acceleration of electrification and realizing a carbon neutral society in India.
