Rohit Sharma came out in support of Rishabh Pant after the Delhi Capitals captain suffered a hot day on the pitch in the intense IPL 2022 clash against India Mumbai. With a playoff spot at stake, DC lost to MI by five wickets with the focus given to Pant because of a DRS mistake he made that returned to haunt the team. The DC captain also dropped the absolute nanny to 12th place to give Dewald Brevis a respite. After the match, Rohit Sharma said that in a high -pressure tournament like the IPL, “small failures can happen” but supported Pant to come back strong next season.
“He’s a quality captain, there’s no doubt about it. In past seasons we’ve seen how he’s led his team. Sometimes things don’t go your way, it’s as simple as that. I’ve been through situations like this. Situations before and I just told him about the same thing. Things like this happen on the field, sometimes it doesn’t suit your wishes. So, there is nothing wrong with it, “Rohit Sharma said in a post-match virtual press conference.
“You can take a lot of learning from all this and try and keep things simple. He has a great mind, he reads the game well from behind. It’s a high -pressure tournament and that little confusion can happen. But it’s important not to “lost confidence and didn’t start doubting myself. That’s something I talked to him about. He’s a confident man, he’ll be back strong next season,” he added.
While Brevis’s missed catch didn’t burden DC too much with the young South African batsman sidelined for 37 but the decision not to check the lag against Tim David came back to bite them in a big way.
David knew nothing when DC decided not to take the review. He went on to break 34 11 -ball runs to put MI in the driver’s seat. Mumbai Indians went on to win the game with five wickets, ending DC’s hopes of advancing to the playoffs. Instead, Royal Challengers Bangalore became the fourth and last team to enter the playoffs.
Despite the win, MI finished the contest at the bottom of the points chart and Rohit looked back at the campaign.
“We’re here to win the game. I know some teams are watching us very closely but for us it’s important to get what we want out of this game to make sure we finish the game brilliantly, and pick up some positive things. this last game. Once we lost eight in a race, it was tough. It’s never easy when you lose in a match like that. I think we played well in the second half of the tournament, “the MI captain said.
