Level Tests Will Determine Who Has The Majority, Says Sharad Pawar On Maharashtra Crisis -By ASC

NCP chief Sharad Pawar spoke to reporters amid the Maharashtra crisis

Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar today expressed confidence the Maha Vikas Aghadi government would survive the storm triggered by rebel MLA Eknath Shinde, who claimed the support of more than 40 MLAs.

“The floor test will determine who has the majority,” Mr Pawar, whose Nationalist Congress Party, or MVA, is an ally of Shiv Sena, told reporters this afternoon.

“Everyone knows how the rebel Shiv Sena MPs were brought to Gujarat and then Assam (both ruled by the BJP). We don’t have to take the names of all those who helped them … the Assam government helped them. I don’t have to take any names anymore, “said Mr. Pawar.

Only 13 MLAs came to meet Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray today, sources said, while rebel MLA Mr Shinde was in the video to prove that he had the advantage of showing at least 42 MLAs camping at a hotel in Guwahati, Assam.

In a recent attempt to salvage the ruling Maharashtra alliance, Team Thackeray has decided to file an appeal with the Deputy Speaker of the Maharashtra State Assembly seeking to disqualify 15 rebel MLAs, sources said.

Sena may not move to disqualify 30 or more MLAs, however, as that would lower the half -way mark, which would benefit the BJP. The Sena game appears to be aimed at disqualifying some rebels to prevent others from facing elections, thus forcing them to return.

“The rebellious Shiv Sena MPs need to come to Mumbai … because if the minority is Maha Vikas Aghadi, then they need to come to the Vidhan Sabha … and who will support them once they come to the rally? Are the BJP leaders from Gujarat and Assam will come to the rally to support them? ” Mr. Pawar said.

Mr Shinde has already reached the critical number of MLAs, 37, needed to split the party in the chamber without violating anti-defection laws. With two more Sena MLAs, he will have 39. His total strength is now 42, including the Independent MLA.
