Ace India badminton player Lakshya Sen will face Viktor Axelsen in the final of the All England Open Badminton Championships on Sunday. Sen defeated defending champion Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia 21-13, 12-21, 21-19 in 1 hour 16 minutes to book a place in the final. In head -to -head terms, Sen and Axelsen have clashed with each other five times, with the Dane emerging in the top spot in four times, leaving the Indian with a lone win.
The 20 -year -old Sen only became the fourth men’s singles player after Prakash Nath, Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand advanced to the final of the prestigious tournament.
After winning the semi -final match, Sen said, “I was definitely nervous but I was only trying to play one point at a time and not the event”.
“Towards the end, I was just trying not to think about what was going on. It was the All England semi -final and thoughts started to come in but I tried to keep myself focused.”
“I’m glad I won the match and I can play tomorrow. I will take this time to recover and come out fully tomorrow”, he added.
Sen has been in sensational shape for the past six months. He earned his inaugural world championship bronze in December, before winning his first Super 500 title at the Indian Open in January and finishing the race at the German Open last week.
