With the Rajasthan Royals (RR) ready to start their 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign on Tuesday, Jos Buttler will be aiming to play a key role against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The goalkeeper hitter has always struggled to play against SRH but managed to overcome that problem at IPL 2021. Last season, his 124 -run shot against SRH was his first 30+ score in nine innings against the franchise. In the previous eight innings against the team, the Englishman aggregated 73 runs at a strike rate of 94.81. The main reason for the 31 -year -old’s failure against SRH was the presence of Rashid Khan, who has taken the wicket three times the most done by a bowler in the IPL. In general, he also finds it difficult to play against a foot spinner.

Buttler’s strike rate against bowlers in the IPL is the slowest compared to foot spinners. In 32 innings, he has recorded 220 runs of 173 balls against a foot spinner at a strike rate of 127.2 and he has also been sent off 11 times.

Compared to other bowlers, Buttler has more time to hit the border against the leggies and this is a clear sign of the Englishman’s weakness towards this form of bowling.

With Afghan spinner Rashid joining the new Gujarat Titans (GT) franchise after IPL 2021, the focus will be on Shreyas Gopal and Abdul Samad to trouble Buttler on Tuesday.

Having been released by RR after IPL 2021, Gopal joined SRH for Rs 75 lakh during this year’s mega auction. In 48 IPL matches, Karnataka cricketers have taken 48 wickets including four wickets.

Meanwhile, young Abdul Samad has been a part of SRH since his arrival in the IPL 2020 auction. The versatile player is also a leg spinner and not a bowler throughout his young IPL career. In 23 games, he only managed to get two sidelined.

But if SRH wants to play well against RR, they need to keep the Royals ’strong batting line quiet.
