Leftist Devdutt Padikkal was bought by the Rajasthan Royals franchise for Rs 7.75 crore in the IPL mega auction in Bengaluru last month. The price tag was not a surprise after Padikkal’s impressive appearance for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the top spot the previous season. Also, it was recently revealed by Kumar Sangakkara, cricket director and head coach of RR, how much he admires Padikkal’s classy shots. During the Club House session in the Red Bull Cricket room, Sangakkara praised the Indian cricketer.
Expressing how “successful” the batsman was, Sangakkara revealed how “he would love” to have a “side -legged game”.
For someone who is considered one of the most elegant left -handed shot makers to ever enliven the sport, Padikkal is sure to receive high praise.
“I watched Devdutt for the last two seasons, he was so successful,” he said.
“He’s a guy because he goes through the inning, increases his scoring rate and minimizes risk. I really like it if Devdutt Paddikal plays on the side of the foot. His flicker and his ability to fight the beat is impressive,” he added.
In the IPL, Padikkal has played 29 matches, scoring 884 runs at an average of 31.57 and an impressive strike rate of 125.04.
