The Punjab Kings recorded a thrilling five -wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore to start their 2022 IPL campaign with a big win. A few subtle shots by the top order and 8-ball 25 Odean Smith didn’t come out the blitz helped the Punjab Kings chase down a 206-run target in 19 overs. This is the fourth time in the history of the Indian Premier League that Punjab have chased the target of over 200 runs. In the process, the Punjab Kings overtook the Chennai Super Kings to become the most successful team chasing 200+ runs.

Before the PBKS vs RCB IPL 2022 match, Punjab and Chennai had chased the 200+ run target three times. On Sunday night, Punjab took the record outright by blowing up the RCB with several power shots.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have twice chased targets in excess of 200.

On Sunday, Punjab had thanked Odean Smith for successfully conducting an important chase. A good start courtesy of Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan has laid the foundation for the pursuit of PBKS. Bhanuka Rajapaksa blasted 43 just 22 balls to continue the good work.

But RCB scratched their way back by picking wickets with Rajapaksa, Raj Angad Bawa and Liam Livingstone falling in a row.

When PBKS seemed to have too much to do in the last five laps, Odean Smith opened the sluice by crossing the border.

Anuj Rawat had a chance to push the West Indian player, but dropped the absolute nanny inside which was potentially detrimental to RCB of the game.

The Punjab Kings will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede on Friday while RCB will also face KKR on Wednesday at DY Patil Sports Academy.
