After captaining Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for seven seasons, Virat Kohli stepped down as captain after IPL 2021. While the former India captain was still part of the RCB contingent, the franchise signed Faf du Plessis in a mega auction and revealed him as the new captain ahead IPL 2022. Kohli is a man known for his tough attitude on the field, not ready to give anything to the opposition. Someone made from the same mold is Kohli’s former teammate in India, Gautam Gambhir. During the 2013 IPL season, Kohli and Gambhir were involved in a verbal altercation. Not long after a decade, Gambhir spoke about the incident.
Speaking to Jatin Sapru on the last YouTube channel, Gambhir opened up about the incident and said that he had nothing “personal” against Kohli.
“It’s okay, I’m really good with him and I expect him to be so. I’m so. I like the competition, I like competitive people. MS Dhoni is a competitor in his own way, Virat is a competitor. In his own way. Sometimes when you lead a party, you have to do it even if you don’t want to do it because you want your team to play the way you want.As a leader, sometimes you don’t think about personal relationships with other men (but) just because you lead the team, you need to do it “, said Gambhir.
“That’s why there was nothing personal (at the time) and there would be nothing personal about Virat Kohli. And I said over and over that what he achieved, I was not at all surprised. That’s the kind of player he was when we saw him early on. but what he turned out to be, I think from a fitness standpoint and the way he worked on his skills was incredible “, he added.
IPL 2022 is scheduled to start on March 26 and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face KKR at the opening of the season. Meanwhile, RCB will hold their first match on March 27, against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
