Hardik Pandya’s repeated injury, and subsequent slow recovery, left him only half of the players he has ever suffered in the past year. After the inability of the allrounder to do bowling due to injury at the T20 2021 World Cup to the detriment of the beloved Indian cricket team, Pandya has been dropped from the national team. However, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Pandya – a bowler – made a comeback. He did bowling in the first five games before a groin injury forced him to miss the match against the Chennai Super Kings.

Since returning, however, Pandya is still unfinished. Daniel Vettori, the former captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore and New Zealand, feels Pandya may not play again in the 2022 IPL.

“I don’t think we’re going to see him as a bowler again (in the IPL). I think he’s too important as a batsman and as a captain. And worries about him losing a game after one or two overs … I think they’ve picked the team now for not worried about his bowling, “Vettori, a former New Zealand captain who has also long played in the IPL, told ESPNCricinfo.

Before the new injury affected Pandya’s progress, he bowled 18.3 overs and made four wickets. He has a more noticeable impact with the bat for the Gujarat Titans, currently no. 1 team in the table with 12 points. In six games, Pandya had 295 runs including three and a half centuries to become their top scorer.

“They’ve relied a lot on Hardik and not for his bowling but for his shots. If you’re in the locker room of the Gujarat Titans team, you won’t worry about that,” Ravi Shastri, the former India coach, told ESPNCricinfo.
