Former India head coach Ravi Shastri made a big statement about young paceman Umran Malik on Tuesday, after the fast bowler put on an impressive display against the Rajasthan Royals. It was a bad day at the office for the SunRisers Hyderabad bowler but Umran shone bright with his raw speed and enthusiasm when he finished with a 2/39 figure
Speaking in a mid -half show on host broadcaster Star Sports, Shastri said Umran has all the talent as an Indian player but he needs to be handled properly.
“I think this guy has talent. He has pure speed and if he hits the right area he’s going to trouble a lot of batsmen. It’s about handling it properly. The message you give him, that’s the way you communicate with him that’s going to be very very important.
“There is no doubt in his potential. This guy is an Indian player. When he is ready, only time decides, but the communication part is very important. He should be handled carefully and kept in the mix,” Shastri said.
When asked about how he should be handled, Shastri said that the fast bowler could be used as a net bowler for the Indian team so that he could feel the team culture.
“He should be kept in the combination of the Indian cricket team, team A. The voters should watch him closely and keep him in the mix as much as they can.
“If this COVID thing goes on and you need a clean bowler or a long party, take him there,” Shastri added.
Umran Malik is one of the players retained by the Hyderabad Sunrisers ahead of the IPL mega auction.
