MS Dhoni resigned as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) two days before the start of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) and handed over the reins of government to Ravindra Jadeja. South African legend AB de Villiers, who is retiring from all forms of cricket ahead of the 2022 IPL, praised the goalkeeper’s decision, saying the captain could weaken players. AB de Villiers has been South Africa’s captain in the past and knows the pressure of the job, and supports Dhoni’s move.

“I’m not surprised by MS’s move. I’m actually pretty happy for him,” he told VUSport Scouts.

“Having carried that burden for so long, people might think that being captain is easy, but it’s really tiring for you. Sometimes you experience sleepless nights, especially when you don’t have a good season. But I think he is. stepping away just in time, after winning the last IPL, “he added.

CSK failed to qualify for the IPL knockout stages for the first time in 2020, but bounced back to win the title in 2021, meaning Dhoni left his captain with a win.

“The season before the last one would have really hurt him. To go back and win a trophy and then say ‘I’m still going to play but someone else will take over and I’ll be there to support’, it was the perfect move,” de Villiers said.

“I’m excited to watch MS just enjoy himself, to hit that big six again. Not too much thinking about strategy and having to monitor guys. He can go out there and hit six and entertain the whole world with what he does best., And that’s it is to play cricket and win matches, “he added.

MS Dhoni reached half a century in the opening match of the 2022 IPL season against the Kolkata Knight Riders, despite his team losing 6 wickets.
