Home matches against Sri Lanka at home gave India exactly what the doctor had promised in terms of confidence and stability after suffering a hard-fought 2-1 Test series loss to South Africa earlier this year. Under the leadership of newly appointed skipper Rohit Sharma, India dominated against Sri Lanka, completely overtaken by a major Indian party. After winning entry to the first round of the Mohali, India secured a 238-run victory in the two-match Test series to whitewash the Sri Lankans.

But some beautiful performances by the Indian players will give Rohit Sharma and the team management a headache in the selection.

Shreyas Iyer, in particular, surprised everyone last year with his first century home test against New Zealand and continued his good form in the home tests against Sri Lanka.

Iyer scored 27 in Mohali in the first inning, but returned to fit in the second test, where he delivered a 92-run hit in the first inning, and a second in a run of 67 in the second.

This purple patch was also recognized by legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar in the post-match session of Star Sports.

Gavaskar praised Iyer for taking the opportunity with both hands and also said that “it could be the next big thing” in the Indian cricket in the coming months.

“Anyone who plays the way he does.

India’s next test will be against England at Edgbaston from 1 July.
