Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are both going through skinny times. While the former has not scored a ton since November, 2019, the latter has failed to reach half a century in 14 consecutive matches in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). Now the two senior Indian batsmen are expected to perform well in the upcoming Tour of England , starting with the Test match in Birmingham starting July 1st. It is a rescheduled Test match that will determine the fate of the unfinished series between India and England that was stalled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Ahead of the series, 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev gave his views on the performances of both players.
During a discussion on his YouTube channel, Dev was told by the author that many people told him not to analyze Kohli’s form because he doesn’t play cricket.
To which, Dev replied: “In fact I don’t play cricket like Virat Kohli. Then we can’t criticize this player, because we don’t play cricket that much. That’s wrong. We’ve played cricket and we understand And after understanding the game I feel, somewhere or another, they need to correct their own thought processes, not our thought processes.
“If you prove us wrong, we’ll be happy. If you don’t score, we feel there’s something wrong somewhere. Maybe there’s too much cricket. If too much cricket speaks to itself and if too little cricket, then talk with yourself, “added Kapil Dev on Uncut’s YouTube channel.
“We only saw one thing and that was your show. And if the show wasn’t there, how many people could you stop from talking about? That’s not possible. Your bat and your show are supposed to talk, nothing else.”
When asked about the Kohli century drought, Kapil Dev said: “I also asked the same thing: The player is so big and the gap is so big. I was also bothered by him because he was such a hero to us. We used to think that we could never find a player to be compared to Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag. But Kohli forced us to compare him to them. But two years ago he didn’t do it. So I was distracted. I think mentally he needs to do it to improve his cricket. “
Kapil Dev also talked about Rohit not getting half a century in the IPL. “The player is brilliant. But if you don’t score fifty in 14 games, there will be a question mark. Whether it’s Gary Sobers, or Don Bradman, or Sachin, or Virat Kohli or Vivian Richards or Sunil Gavaskar. If a big player is a player like him, not scoring a goal in many games will raise a question mark. Only Rohit Sharma can answer what happened to him. Players like him and Virat Kohli should enjoy this game. “
