Just proud to play, Sidra Ameen showcased some outstanding hitting skills during Pakistan’s ongoing league stage match in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday. Although Pakistan were beaten by England for 105 runs in 41.3 overs, the 29 -year -old hitter scored the most goals for his team with 32 runs from 77 balls. Ameen also made four shots of four, one of which caught the attention of the official operator of the tournament and led to comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar. In the second pass in the 15th game, Ameen received a full pass from Nat Sciver and he played an excellent drive to direct the ball to the ground past the left of the bowler, beating the midfielder. The ICC and the tournament’s official Instagram holder posted a video of the capture and also compared it to Sachin’s trademark straight drive. The video was captioned as, “Reminds you of someone, @sachintendulkar?”

Such was the beauty of the capture that the reviewer said, “That’s a great picture. That’s a beautiful picture”.

Apart from Ameen, only two other batsmen managed to score double -digit goals against England. Omaima Sohail recorded 11 runs of 30 balls and Sidra Nawaz managed to collect 23 runs from 44 passes.

Meanwhile, Katherine Brunt was in great form and did three wickets in eight overs, conceding just 17 runs. Sophie Ecclestone also earned three eliminations in 8.3 overs, and leaked 18 runs.

Heather Knight and Kate Cross each took a wicket.

Pakistan will seek consolation, and will not be able to compete for the semi -finals. They lost the first four games and then beat the West Indies in the previous game. They are also at the bottom of the league.


England, meanwhile, lost their first three matches and then won back-to-back matches against India and New Zealand to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

England will be aiming for a win against Pakistan and put up a challenge to get to the semi -finals.
