Donald Trump’s son -in -law Jared Kushner will testify in the US Capitol Riots Investigation

Jared Kushner, Trump’s highest -ranking adviser and the first family member to testify so far

The son -in -law of former U.S. president Donald Trump and top White House aide Jared Kushner will answer questions Thursday from a House panel investigating last year’s attack on the Capitol.

Kushner, Trump’s highest -ranking adviser and the first family member to testify so far, appeared via a video link voluntarily and has not been subpoenaed.

He returned from Saudi Arabia on the day of the Jan. 6 uprising, and did not spend the night at the White House on his return to the United States.

Kushner’s appearance covers an intense period of almost daily exposure from the investigation.

It was revealed last week that Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas, sent more than two dozen texts rejecting wild conspiracy theories and urging then -White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to help cancel the 2020 election.

Kushner’s name appeared in a message from Thomas dated Nov. 13, 2020, when he told Meadows: “Just forwarded to gmail of the year the email I sent to Jared this morning … better coordination now will help the cavalry come in and Fraud exposed and America saved him. “

It also appears that White House logs provided to investigators for the day of the uprising show a gap of nearly eight hours in Trump’s calls, including the period covering the violence.

The committee is investigating whether it has a full record and if Trump communicated that day via an aide or a personal disposable “burner” phone.

The select committee has also asked for testimony from Kushner’s wife, Ivanka Trump’s former first daughter, who was in the White House on Jan. 6 and appealed to her father to speak out against the violence, according to reports.

The White House said on Tuesday it would reject any allegations of “executive privilege” – which allows the president to keep certain work -related conversations with aides secret – from Kushner or Ivanka Trump.

The committee is nearing the end of its investigation phase and plans a public hearing this spring.

The Justice Department’s investigation into the attack, which left at least five people dead, “has expanded to scrutinize rally preparations that preceded the riots,” including those who “assisted in planning, funding and executing” the event, The Washington Post reported.
