Shanghai:

China signed new rules on the supervision of military equipment purchase contracts on Saturday, the official Xinhua news agency said.

The announcement came a day after President Xi Jinping held a video call with his US counterpart Joe Biden as they discussed the Ukraine war.

During the call, Biden warned China not to support Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Biden also said China, which is calling for a ceasefire in Ukraine, is making its own decisions.

The rules are aimed at increasing efficiency in the supervision of military equipment purchase contracts and ensuring good -quality equipment is delivered to the military, Xinhua said, without giving specific details.

The rule will take effect on March 20.
