Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has dismissed allegations of a rift between him and MS Dhoni, saying he has a lot of “mutual respect” for the veteran goalkeeper’s striker. Gambhir, who has often been criticized for some of his comments on Dhoni, also said that he would be the first to stand next to the former India captain if he needed the matter. Speaking to Jatin Sapru in his YouTube show ‘Over and Out’, Gambhir explained about this rumored split with Dhoni.
“Look I have a lot of respect for him and it will always remain. I have said it on the air, I will say it on your channel, I can say it anywhere in front of 138 crore people, if ever in need, I hope he never needs , but if in need in life, I will be the first to stand by him because of what he did for Indian cricket, what he is as a human being, ”Gambhir said.
To reiterate his view again, Gambhir points to the fact that he was the vice -captain of the team during the majority of Dhoni’s reign as the head of the Indian Team.
“I was actually the longest-serving vice-captain when he was captain. We used to be rivals on the field when we played for our respective teams. But I really respect him, for the kind of person, the kind of cricketer he is,” he added.
Gambhir signed on saying that if Dhoni had further increased the order, he would have broken all records in white ball cricket.
“If he explodes at No. 3, he’s going to break all records. We’re talking about some great No. 3 players – he’s going to break everything in white ball cricket,” he concluded.
