Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has asked Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris to help his inconsistent team qualify for the Champions League standings. The Spurs are vying for a place in the top four in the Premier League after beating Manchester United by a six-point lead on Saturday in fourth-placed Arsenal with a game in hand. Conte’s side may need to win almost all of their remaining matches to return to the competition for European elite clubs and the Italian knows he needs his big players to play.
“If you want to have the hope to fight to the end for this kind of goal, this is the time to ask a lot of big players,” he said on the eve of his trip to Brighton on Wednesday.
“To Harry, Hugo and Sonny. These players need to take the situation to stay with us until the end. At the moment, experience is very important. We don’t have much experience in this team and it’s fair to ask. Experienced and talented players to give it their all.
“I think they’re giving it their all but 100 percent isn’t enough. We need to ask 120, 130 percent for that kind of goal.”
Manchester United, West Ham and Wolves are also challenged to be among the top four behind leaders Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
“It’s not easy in England, it’s not easy,” Conte said. “When you start the season normally, you think that in the end, the top four teams will go to the Champions League: United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool.
“But last season Liverpool struggled to secure their place in the Champions League. It’s happening with United this season. This league is very difficult.”
