All praise for Indian captain Rohit Sharma Shreyas Iyer came after India won Sri Lanka in a day-night test to clear the series 2-0 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Shreyas scored a half-century goal in both innings of the match and was named “Match Player” for his performance in the second round. Rohit said Shreyas had heavy shoes to fill after veteran batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane were removed from the Test side of the Sri Lanka series.
At the presentation ceremony, Rohit said he was surprised to see Shreyas move from T20Is to the longest gaming format. The Indian captain said he will only improve when he starts touring regularly with the Iyer team.
“Shreyas continued from where he left off in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. That form seemed to take him to the Test series. He knew he was getting into the skin of guys like Rahane and Pujara, but he has everything. He demands it. He’ll be better off now when he starts traveling,” Rohitek.
Iyer scored a brilliant 92 to assist in 252nd place on a runway at the entrance before 98 balls. The right-hander then backed up his efforts with a 67-run hit in the second inning to help India make a 447-run run from Siri. Lanka.
Sri Lanka came out on top in 208 as spinners Jasprit Bumrah (3/23) and Ravichandra Ashwin (4/55) broke the line-up of Sri Lankan batsmen.
For Sri Lanka, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne achieved a ton of fighting and Kusal Mendis completed well with a beautiful half century.
Earlier, India knocked out Sri Lanka for 109 fouls, after scoring 252 and 303 for nine points in the first and second innings, respectively.
India’s 14th victory has been in a row since Rohit was named captain of India.
