AC Milan won their first Serie A title in 11 years on Sunday after beating Sassuolo 3-0 to snatch the crown from local rivals Inter Milan. It only took one point to claim the Milan Scudetto beat their hosts thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and another from Franck Kessie in the first half in front of the opposing supporters at the Mapei Stadium. Stefano Pioli’s Milan finished two points ahead of Inter, who beat Sampdoria 3-0 at the San Siro. Fans partyed in Milan and flooded the pitch in Reggio Emilia as the ‘Rossoneri’ returned to the top of the Italian game after years of a weak team and financial problems since their last league crown in 2011.

Pioli’s squad were so great in winning their sixth match with a rebound and ensuring that title for a long period of the season was locked like Inter to lose.

They were aided by a hat-trick from exciting winger Rafale Leao, who has reached adulthood this season and is reportedly a summer target for Paris Saint-Germain.

Giroud had scored some of the most important goals as Milan chased the title and once again showed why he was a player for the big event in the 17th minute.

Milan were already approaching French strikers Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemaekers when Giroud was in the right place at the right time to sweep Leao’s low pass through Andrea Consigli’s feet and make the Milan fan base go wild.

Sassuolo immediately withered in the face of Milan’s attack and practically gave Giroud a chance to score an almost identical second goal just after the half-hour mark.

Leao was once again the provider, this time robbing the ball from Gian Marco Ferrari before making another low pass for Giroud, who slammed into his 12th of the season and made time to party in the crowd.

And it was another bad mistake from the Sassuolo players four minutes later that allowed Milan to relax and enjoy the celebrations that began around them.

This time Maxime Lopez was robbed by Rade Krunic, with Leao blasting this time on the right and cutting back for Kessie, who blasted in the third to sign in a perfect way ahead of his move to Barcelona as a free agent in the closing season.

The second half was dedicated to Milan’s celebration and although some of Sassuolo’s matches were spirited, it was only a matter of time before the opposing team clinched the championship for the 19th time.
