820,620 Cases In 3 Days -By ASC

Covid In North Korea: Kim Jong Un says the outbreak has caused “huge unrest” in North Korea.

North Korea on Sunday reported 15 additional deaths from “fever” after the country recently announced its first Covid-19 case and ordered a nationwide shutdown.

KCNA state media said a total of 42 people had died, with 820,620 cases and at least 324,550 in medical treatment.

Leader Kim Jong Un said the outbreak had caused “massive unrest” in North Korea.

KCNA reported that “all provinces, cities and counties in the country have been completely locked down and work units, production units and residential units are closed to each other.”

Despite activating a “maximum emergency quarantine system” to slow the spread of the disease through its unvaccinated population, North Korea now reports a large number of new cases every day.

North Korea confirmed Thursday that a highly contagious Omicron variant has been detected in the capital Pyongyang, with Kim ordering a nationwide shutdown.

It was the government’s first official acknowledgment of the Covid case and marked the failure of the two -year coronavirus blockade maintained since the outbreak began.

“The spread of malignant diseases has been a major upheaval in our country since the establishment of the DPRK,” Kim said on Saturday, referring to North Korea by his official name.

North Korea has a crumbling health system-one of the worst in the world-and no Covid vaccines, antiviral treatment drugs or large-scale testing capacity.

It has previously rejected Covid vaccine offers from China and the World Health Organization’s Covax scheme, but both Beijing and Seoul have issued new offers for aid and vaccines.

The KCNA report does not specify whether new cases and deaths have tested positive for Covid-19, but experts say the country will struggle to test and diagnose on this scale.

The United States and South Korea have warned that Kim is preparing to conduct another nuclear test-which will be the regime’s seventh test-and it could come at any time.

Analysts have warned Kim could speed up his nuclear test plans in a bid to distract the North Korean population from the catastrophic Covid-19 outbreak.
