FIFA, the world football governing body, has yet to come to terms with Mohamed Salah’s incident in Egypt’s recent match against Senegal, which has threatened the safety of the players. A similar security breach occurred in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador played at the Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha, when a pitch intruder forcibly grabbed the neck of Argentine captain Lionel Messi in an attempt to take a selfie with the great footballer. Although the fans, who wore Ecuadorian jerseys, managed to catch the angry Messi through the lens of the camera, he was soon removed from the ground by security personnel.
After the incident, the fan used Instagram to showcase his photos as well as a short video with the “best player of all time” and even wrote a long note praising Messi.

This was Argentina’s last qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Brazil finished as champions with 14 wins and 3 draws while Uruguay finished third with eight wins from 18 matches, suffering six defeats in the process. Ecuador also qualified as they recorded 7 wins, six defeats and five draws from 18 matches.
