Bruno Fernandes led Portugal to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with two goals in Portugal’s 2-0 win over Northern Macedonia on Tuesday. The midfielder was in great form and scored in both halves. Fernandes’ first goal was the best example of his understanding with Manchester United team -mate Cristiano Ronaldo. The 27-year-old received a poor pass by Northern Macedonia captain Stefan Ristovski in the 32nd minute and then sent it forward to Ronaldo. The Portuguese captain arrived at the edge of the area but instead of shooting, he continued it back to Fernandes through the leg of a player with the former Sporting CP man turning it on with confidence.

For his second goal in the 65th minute, Bruno received a cross from Diogo Jota which ended perfectly with a half-volley.
The win extended Portugal’s qualifying record to six of six World Cups since the turn of the century and also Ronaldo’s fifth.
The result also meant the end of the fairy tale of Northern Macedonia, in which they defeated Italy. Ranked 67th in the FIFA World Rankings, they beat Germany to finish second in Group J.
They followed it up by beating European champions Italy in the semi-finals of the play-offs on Friday when Aleksandar Trajkovski scored the winning goal in the 92nd minute to secure victory in Palermo.
